Rockford, IL – April 18, 2019 – WATT Global Media recently released the April edition of Industria Avícola magazine with exclusive profiles of the leading poultry companies in Latin America. The survey includes rankings in broiler production and laying hens as well as additional insights on these industries.

For 2018 compared to 2017, Latin American broiler production dropped 1.42%. However, total production in the last five years has grown by 2.75%. Many top producing countries registered increases, including Mexico at 6.3%, Ecuador at 8%, Peru at 8.8% and Paraguay at 5.95%

The slight drop last year was due to Brazil’s decline in production, producing around 270 million less broilers (from 6.1 billion to approximately 5.829 billion). That amount is equal to the total annual combined production in Chile or Ecuador.

The laying hen population increased by 1.6% in 2018 compared to the previous year. Since 2014, growth has been at 11.75%. Countries with notable increases include Chile at 8.6%, Mexico at 2.7% and Peru at 5.81%. Regarding Mexico, already the first in egg consumption in the world, its production growth is greater than the population growth itself.

“The Latin American survey also reports on the top companies in each of the countries surveyed,” says Benjamín Ruiz, Editor, Industria Avícola. “The top 10 broiler companies are dominated by Brazil with Mexico following. For the top 10 egg producers, it’s the reverse with Mexico leading followed by Brazil and then Peru.”

To compile this report, Industria Avícola conducts the survey annually with results from a combination of company-submitted information and estimates from industry sources. The Top Company edition includes information not found elsewhere with additional details available online.

WATT Global Media offers an extensive online database for the Latin American poultry market.
